Lloyd elected onto the French Bulldog Club of NSW

We are proud to announce that Lloyd was elected onto the French Bulldog Club of NSW as their new Publicity Officer in September – replacing the fabulous Marika Orfanos-Farrugia who hands on the baton after years of great work in the position.

There’s never been a more important time to defend responsible Frenchie Breeders.  The breed has been put under increasing pressure due to the influx of pups from backyard, inexperienced  and negligent breeders (often driven by profit) who have churned out thousands of unhealthy Frenchies over the past decade.  These poor dogs are suffering serious complications causing incredible pain and suffering to the Frenchies themselves and to the families they have become such an important part.

Because of this there is a push to ban Frenchies which we intend to fight by gathering Frenchie breeders, owners and lovers to resist losing this lovable purebred dog.  The Government is also looking at tighter regulation on brachycephalic animals – which we applaud.

These precious little beings depend on those bringing them to the world to exercise the very best science, training and instincts when creating them. The Club’s continued collaboration with Australian and global universities to bring in a strong ethical health testing code of practice is onerous (as it should be) and as a Club, we do not shy away from placing new practice rules on our members even if it places a new burden on breeders.  Combining DNA to produce a child is always a roll of the dice – even for us humans – however, breeders owe it the little beings to do everything in our power to provide them the happiest and healthiest start to life that results in longevity and vigour – full of potential.

Responsible breeders are at the forefront of improving the health outcomes for Frenchies – and we are having success.

“I am so happy to bring my years of media and public relations experience to the role of Publicity Officer for the French Bulldog Club of NSW.  My hope in taking on the role is that I can help to shine a spotlight on the great work being done by good breeders to produce healthy Frenchies and work more closely with NSW Parliamentary members, the DPI and other animal welfare groups to safeguard better health outcomes for Frenchies.  We need to turn the understandable hostile focus on our breed to those irresponsible and negligent breeders who are discrediting our beloved French Bulldogs and highlight the great news that FRENCHIES are not the problem – bad breeders ARE.” Said Lloyd on his election to the position.

“French Bulldogs are a breed in very high demand – NO regulation or bans will stop then being bred. The ONLY way forward to ensure that passionate breeders of French Bulldogs are given every opportunity to access good scientific research to help produce healthy pups.  The alternative will only force breeding underground with inevitable poor outcomes.  The public and law makers need to fully understand this and end the simplistic vilification of breeders who should be part of the solution.”

Fundamentally – responsible breeders provide the best way forward to the current health problems damaging the breed’s reputation.
